7 tips on how to take care of mixed heritage, curly or afro hair

1. Choose the right type of shampoo for curly hair

Curly or mixed heritage hair types need moisture, moisture and moisture. If your choice of shampoo contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl sulfate etc Your hair will be squeaky clean, but you would have stripped  the hair from its natural oils. Opt for a more natural shampoo. Use a shampoo with SLS very occasionally if you feel there is a build up of products on your hair for example.


2. Condition the curly hair

.After washing hair, always condition it, avoid parabens , alcohol or silicones when purchasing your conditioners. that will remove moisture from the hair add Monshea oil on top of your conditioner (excellent for low porosity hair) 

3. Finger comb

Finger comb while wet or use a wide tooth comb, gently comb through hair starting at the ends to the root.

4. Now for more oil

Prior to styling add Monshea shea oil. Argan oil or Avocado oil . This helps to moisturise the hair further

5. Sealant

As another layer of protection depending on the hair porosity, you will need to seal with Shea butter if you have low porosity or Castor oil if you have high porosity.

6. Daily care

 In between washes put 1 part oil, I part conditioner and 5 parts water in a spray bottle and spritz hair on a daily basis or before styling. or combing .If hair i s looking particularly dry add some natural oil appropriate for your hair type direct to hair 2 or 3 times a week.

7. Sleep with Satin or silk pillowcase

Or with a satin scarf tied around your hair at night. Not glamorous i know , but the curls will love it.

Monshea shea oil and scalp oil are ideal for low porosity hair.
